
EXTENDED BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Robin Oatis-Ballew (she/her) is a Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences and Counseling at Tennessee State University where she studies BIPOC women and health and graduate student training. She operates with a spirit of inclusivity and collaboration. Since 2013, Dr. Oatis-Ballew has been the Program Coordinator of the Ph.D. in Psychology, Counseling Concentration. Under her leadership, the program was awarded APA’s 2019 Richard A. Suinn Award in recognition of its outstanding efforts in recruiting, retaining, and graduating students of color in the field of Professional Psychology. In 2021, the program received the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs (CCPTP) Outstanding Graduate Training Award for its efforts in Advocacy, Inclusion, and Diversity. In addition in 2021, Dr. Oatis-Ballew Co-Chaired the University’s 1st Microaggressions Training Conference.

Dr. Oatis-Ballew serves on the Board of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs and is Secretary for the Tennessee Psychological Foundation. In addition, she has served as a Grant Review Panelist for the National Science Foundation. She has also maintained a small private practice for over 20 years.
